Liverpool could look to sign Euro 2020 star Renato Sanches next summer, according to Get French Football News’ Adam White.

Sanches sprung into the limelight by making 29 appearances as Lille went on to clinch a surprise Ligue One title last season.

The £27m-rated 24-year-old, who struggled in his only spell in the Premier League with Swansea City three years ago, then went on to force his way into Portugal’s starting line-up as they reached the last 16 of Euro 2020.

Would Sanches be a good signing for Liverpool?

Sanches’ form has led to links with Liverpool, who have been searching for a new midfield option since the loss of Georginio Wijnaldum to French giants Paris Saint-Germain following the expiry of his Anfield deal.

However, Lille have revealed the former Bayern Munich man is set for a six-week spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery earlier this week.

Ligue One expert White thinks the injury blow has ended the chances of Sanches heading to Anfield before the deadline passes but he would not be surprised to see Liverpool make a move at the end of the season.

He told TIF: “Is he a Jurgen Klopp type of player? Yes, I think so.

Liverpool won the first of their six European cups in which season?

“In theory, he has the attributes that Klopp would want. He is mobile, very good on the ball and can press with that intensity Klopp’s side plays with.

“I certainly think he would fit in well at Liverpool. It will keep [the reported interest] until next summer, when he will be back from injury and had a good run in Ligue One.”
