Journalist Conor McGilligan has claimed that Leeds United are interested in signing American striker Daryl Dike.

According to TEAMtalk, Leeds are seeking a possible loan deal for the former Barnsley man.

While speaking on a recent episode of the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan delivered his take on reports that the Yorkshire club are exploring Dike as an alternative attacking option at the club.

He said: “Leeds are exploring the American option, Captain America: Daryl Dike, looking for a powerful striker.

“He doesn’t really fit the Leeds mould, but what we saw with Gelhardt is maybe a little bit of a flick of the switch in terms of Leeds United going for powerful centre-forwards.

“Dike is a monster. As you guys know, I’ve watched Barnsley quite a bit and I’ve watched a lot of Daryl Dike last season. What did Bamford get in the Championship, 13 goals, 14 goals, was it?  Dike got 10 goals in 19 matches, signed in January, was unbelievable for Barnsley.”

TIF Thoughts on Daryl Dike and Leeds…

Last season, Leeds were heavily reliant on Patrick Bamford’s goalscoring prowess – the striker scored 17 of the club’s 62 league goals.

Perhaps Marcelo Bielsa is interested in taking some of the pressure off Bamford’s shoulders this time around. In Dike, he could have a great alternative to the English striker.

Dike set the Championship on fire last season after signing for a Barnsley on a six-month loan. The American forward netted nine times in the league, firing Barnsley into the play-offs.

Promising youngster Joe Gelhardt could also provide an alternative to Bamford, but at just 19 years of age and without a Premier League appearance to his name, it could be asking too much of the teenager to chip in much this season.
