Pundit Hugh Keevins has recently talked about Aaron Hickey and the links involving his potential return to Celtic.
It has been recently suggested that Celtic are closing in on the signing of Hickey this summer but Serie A outfit Fiorentina are also said to be in the race to sign the Scotsman.
Keevins appeared on the latest edition of Clyde Superscoreboard and he talked about potential Celtic transfers. One player that he gave his opinion about was Hickey and he spoke about whether he’d be a good signing for the Bhoys.
Will Hickey be a project signing for Celtic?
Yes
No
Keevins believes that Hickey won’t be a project signing for Celtic because he’s already an established player.
He said: “These reports are coming first and foremost from Italy, and the Italian press have been suggesting that a bid is on the table. With Celtic, you never know and you have a long wait in your hand whoever it is, wherever he is. So we’ll need to wait until the story is firmed up in some way. But there’s no downside to getting Hickey.
“Anyone who can go to Serie A and hold his place there at that tender age has to be a good prospect. He would not be coming as a project, he will be coming as someone who has established his reputation here, was then sold to an Italian club and is worthy of Celtic bidding a seven-figure fee for him.”
TIF Thoughts on Hickey…
Hickey had held onto a first-team place at Bologna before he suffered an injury. Even for Hearts, he played plenty of games in the Premiership.
It suggests that he’s certainly someone who might be good enough to play regularly for Celtic, especially since Greg Taylor wasn’t a regular for the Bhoys in the 2020/21 campaign.
Considering that Hickey’s transfer could command a seven-figure fee, Celtic might just have to play him regularly or they’d risk not using an expensive talent properly, though they would have to get him through the door first.
