Many Celtic fans have been discussing a news update involving Odsonne Edouard that recently emerged on social media.
Journalist Stephen McGowan has recently provided an update about the situation of Edouard, claiming that Brighton and Hove Albion are about to make a £20m bid for the Frenchman.
Interestingly, this follows claims from last week that alleged Brighton had already submitted a bid of around £21.4m for the striker.
Would you be happy to see Edouard leave?
Yes
No
McGowan’s report in the Daily Mail claims that the Seagulls will wait until Celtic’s Champions League qualifying second leg against Midtjylland to make an offer. Ange Postecoglou has already claimed that he won’t stand in players’ way if they want to depart this summer.
“Some of us love to point the finger at the ‘confetti’ share issues south of the river but every year we’re late in recruiting players & preparing for the season ahead for one reason only – the balance sheet. We know the money is coming for Edouard/Ajer but the delay is for profit.”
“It’s madness and badly run that Celtic let are best players contracts run down. I bet now we sell him for £20m and buy a cheap replacement. Why do I think that as I have no confidence in our board not one bit”
While Edouard has been amongst the goals regularly for Celtic over the last few seasons, last season saw him pick up his joint-lowest goals-per-90 tally during his time at Parkhead. So even though he did score quite a few goals, he wasn’t as impressive, especially when you factor in that he scored five from the penalty spot.
So earning a fee of £20million after a season like that would arguably be a very good move for Celtic and fans should be happy with that.
