Journalist Beren Cross has talked about a development surrounding Leeds United defender Diego Llorente.

Llorente was part of the Spain national team at Euro 2020 that were knocked out by Italy in the semi-finals of the competition. He didn’t play for the Spanish side during the tournament and the defender has now already returned to Leeds training.

Will Llorente play regularly next season?

Cross was talking about Leeds and Llorente’s return in a live video on the Leeds United Live Facebook page. The journalist made it clear that it is ‘astonishing’ that the defender is back already but it is probably because he doesn’t need the rest that other players need.

He stated: “I’m quite surprised how quickly Llorente’s got back, given how deep Spain went into the tournament. That’s astonishing.

“I can imagine that Rob Price has got an enormous spreadsheet of the past 12 months and how much time players have had off with injury – I’m sure Llorente has got a lot of weeks on there, where he actually has been quite immobile because of his injury.

“So I suppose, maybe he feels he doesn’t quite need the rest that some of the others need. Equally impressive, especially with him, [Tyler] Roberts and [Robin] Koch all getting back.”

TIF Thoughts on Llorente…

Llorente wasn’t a regular part of the Leeds side in the early part of the 2020/21 season, as he was constantly plagued by injuries. But the Spaniard slowly came back to the side later in the campaign, as he put a strong run of fixtures together towards the end of the season.

Leeds' all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

Having not had any minutes over the summer, this suggests that he’s probably already pretty fit and rested from the injury layoffs last season and considering that, it isn’t a surprise that he’s already back.
