Agent William Glavin has recently expressed his surprise about Celtic’s signing of youngster Osaze Urhoghide.
Glavin appeared on the latest episode of the Celtic Now and Forever podcast and he talked about the club’s recruitment this summer and the business they’ve conducted so far. One player that he focused on was new signing Urhoghide.
The Bhoys paid a compensation fee of £200,000 to sign Urhoghide, with the fee low because it is a cross-border move. If the defender had stayed in England, Sheffield Wednesday would’ve received a higher fee (as per The Scotsman).
Will Urhoghide play regularly next season?
Glavin highlighted the potential promise of the youngster by noting that Leeds United were reportedly interested in his services as well – something that should bode well for Celtic.
He said: “Obviously, we’ve brought in Urhoghide, who I know a little bit about. I was actually quite surprised when I heard we’ve got him because I heard that Leeds were after him.
“I don’t know how true that was, but it sort of affected the way Bielsa plays, which then makes me think, that’s great, because I quite like the way Marcelo Bielsa sets up his team and that and the sort of player he goes for. I’m quite excited about him.”
TIF Thoughts on Urhoghide signing…
In the 2020/21 campaign, Urhoghide played quite a bit of first-team football for Sheffield Wednesday and he also played three different positions. He played at centre-back, left-back and even at right-back. It shows that he’s a pretty versatile player at a young age (as per Transfermarkt).
With Marcelo Bielsa handing many youngsters a chance in the Leeds first team during his time at Elland Road to some success, there is every reason to believe that Urhoghide could have been a success in Yorkshire. Therefore, it is no surprise that Glavin is excited now that Celtic apparently beat the Argentinian to the youngster’s signature.
