West Ham United insider @ExWHUemployee believes that the Hammers may be able to negotiate a cheaper deal to sign Chelsea striker if they can drag talks with the European champions for as long as possible.

This comes after Ex co-hosted a recent edition of The West Ham Way Podcast, where he spoke about a range of topics concerning David Moyes’ side.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

According to The Sun, it has been reported that Chelsea have apparently slashed their asking price for Abraham this summer, Ex had this to say on the situation.

He said: “Abraham is someone that we really like, someone that’s been well known as our striking option. By delaying signing him, the value of him is going down.

“Originally, they wanted £40 million, now I think they’ll take £30 million. I think they’ve even told him he’s categorically available for transfers.

“So, this is playing into our hands. By waiting and dithering, I guess, the values of these players as such are coming down, and obviously, if they come down, that means you can sign more players.”

Abraham, who is a product of Chelsea’s youth academy, made his senior debut for the club back in May 2016 during a Premier League clash against Liverpool under former Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink.

Since then, the 23-year-old, who is currently valued at £34.2 million according to Transfermarkt, has made 82 senior appearances for the club across all competitions, in which he has managed to score 30 goals and provide 12 assists along the way.

TIF Thoughts on Ex’s comments on a potential move for Abraham…

If Chelsea have supposedly cut their price down for Abraham, then this would surely be a boost for West Ham’s chances of signing the striker this summer. However, given how the article also suggests that fellow Premier League clubs Arsenal and Aston Villa could make a move for the striker as well, this would presumably increase the chances of a bidding war.

Should West Ham sign this summer?

In our view, given how West Ham only have Michail Antonio in their squad who predominantly plays in the centre-forward position, they should be doing all they can to secure Abraham this summer and add him to their squad for some attacking depth.
