Paul Stewart reckons there’s every possibility that Jose Mourinho will attempt to sign Eric Dier this window.

Mourinho has always admired the 27-year-old, having tried, and failed to sign him when he was Manchester United manager back in 2017, although quickly making him a regular when he became Tottenham manager.

Dier famously came straight back into the team in Mourinho’s first game in charge at West Ham, but he was dropped soon after.

However, the Portuguese moved him back to centre-back just before lockdown, and then Dier ended up making more appearances than any other Tottenham defender last season.

But he was guilty for making several costly mistakes, giving away penalties and generally looked shaky for much of the campaign.

With that in mind, Stewart exclusively told This is Futbol that Mourinho could come calling again:

“Jose might come in for him because he liked him.

“He might suit Italian football, because there’s not the intense pressure of the Premier League, so if Jose thinks he can do a job, that’s not beyond the realms of possibility, in my opinion.”
