La Liga expert Euan McTear reckons that James Rodriguez could leave Everton this summer but told This is Futbol that his next club is unlikely to be Real Madrid.

The Colombian was signed by Carlo Ancelotti 12 months ago but endured a difficult first season in England.

Rodriguez had initially made an excellent start to his Toffees career, chipping in with goals and assists during the early weeks of the campaign as Everton topped the Premier League table.

However, injuries and a loss of form made for an uneventful second half of his season, and once Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid last month, the attacking midfielder was immediately linked with a move to follow him back to the Spanish capital, having previously played under him at both Madrid and Bayern Munich.

To kick off this quiz on Seamus Coleman, what squad number does the right-back currently wear for the Toffees?

Rodriguez has just one year remaining on the contract he signed last summer, and whilst his future on Merseyside remains unclear, McTear told This is Futbol that a return to the Bernabeu is unlikely:

“He could leave Everton, but if he does, I don’t think it’s Real Madrid. It would be very strange, it’s not 2014 anymore, that would be an odd one for me.

“If he wants a younger and cheaper James, he has one in Martin Odegaard.”
