Many Newcastle fans have been talking about the latest tweet from Keith Downie that recently emerged on social media.

Sky Sports journalist Downie recently tweeted an update about Newcastle’s interest in signing Will Hughes. He stated that the Magpies aren’t interested in the Watford midfielder and they aren’t going to allow an exit for Isaac Hayden too.

This comes after it was reported that Newcastle had enquired over a move for Hughes, but Watford had expressed an interest in a swap deal involving Hayden, as per The Sun’s Alan Nixon (via The Chronicle).

Downie’s update about Hughes drew the attention of many Newcastle fans, who made their views clear about the news.

26-year-old Hughes had made 30 Championship appearances last season, as he scored twice and grabbed a decent WhoScored rating of 6.85/10. Even in the Premier League in the 2019/20 campaign, he was a regular in the midfield for the Hornets (as per WhoScored).

Newcastle's all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Alan Shearer but how many goals did he score for the club?

However, Hayden was Newcastle’s best tackler in the 2020/21 campaign and he also made the most number of interceptions per game for the club. He also won 2.4 aerial duels per game for Steve Bruce’s men (as per WhoScored).

So Hayden is still a vital part of the Newcastle side in a defensive sense and letting him leave to make way for someone far less experienced may not have made much sense.
