Journalist Dean Jones has been discussing Southampton’s plans regarding the future of Danny Ings this summer.

Ings has reportedly rejected a new contract offer from Southampton recently and the Englishman now has only 12 months remaining on his contract. Manchester City have been interested in the forward in the past and Man United are also said to have been keeping an eye on him.

Jones spoke about Ings and shed some light on how the Saints could replace him when the journalist appeared on Touchline Talk. Jones made it clear that he expects Southampton to sign someone in the next few weeks to replace the English forward.

He stated: “I think they’re already looking into options, to be honest, to replace him. I think that’s probably becoming common knowledge now that they’re looking at other targets, other options. I’ll be very surprised if Southampton don’t sign a new striker within the next few weeks.”

It has been reported by The Athletic that Southampton have still kept their contract offer on the table for Ings and they want him to sign it. But there is lingering interest from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and West Ham United.

An offer from Southampton for Adam Armstrong has reportedly been rejected, which might indicate that they see the Englishman as a replacement for Ings.

But since Southampton ‘remain optimistic‘ regarding Ings signing a new deal until he officially leaves for another club, there might still be some hope that he may stay beyond the summer.
