Spanish football journalist Euan McTear reckons Manchester City could take advantage of Barcelona’s financial difficulties by signing Antoine Griezmann this summer.

The Spanish giants have exceeded La Liga’s wage limit and, as a result, they are unable to officially tie Lionel Messi down to a new contract or register new signings.

Barcelona are looking to offload a number of players and Griezmann, who reportedly has three years left on his £300,000-per-week contract, is among those up for grabs.

Finding buyers for Griezmann and other high-earners, such as Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele, would go a long way towards the Nou Camp club balancing the books and being able to welcome Messi back into the fold along with a host of arrivals.

Although reports suggest Griezmann is only interested in a return to Atletico Madrid if he is forced to leave Barcelona, McTear feels City would be able to persuade the France international to head to the Premier League for the first time in his career.

Man City fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this City transfer quiz. According to Transfermarkt, a £68.4 million fee is the club's most expensive arrival, but which player cost this amount?

He exclusively told TIF: “Barcelona need to move some players on if they are to re-sign Messi. To be able to clear the amount they have to, they’re going to have to part ways with one of the big names.

“Griezmann would be one of the names that still, I think, has a lot of value.

“If he has to go somewhere, Paris Saint-Germain have always been linked. But, if he goes to the Premier League, Man City have to be one of the frontrunners.”
