La Liga expert Euan McTear believes Philippe Coutinho would be interested in joining Leicester City despite the Foxes being unable to offer Champions League football.

Coutinho’s current club, Barcelona, are desperately trying to offload fringe players after exceeding La Liga’s wage limit.

As a result, Barcelona have been unable to officially tie Lionel Messi down to a new contract and incoming stars – such as Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay – cannot be registered.

Coutinho has had a tough spell at the Nou Camp, having joined from Liverpool for £142million in 2018, with a loss of form and injuries causing havoc.

The 29-year-old has made just 90 appearances since making the move to Barcelona.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been tipped by the bookies (via Birmingham Mail) to make a surprise move, but McTear feels Coutinho would be keen to reunite with Brendan Rodgers having already worked under the Northern Irishman at Anfield.

The news comes after Brazil international Coutinho reportedly (Mundo Deportivo, via Sport Witness) suggested he would welcome a return to the Premier League.

To kick off this quiz on Leicester City's 2019/20 season, who is the only outfield player to have appeared in all 38 of the Foxes' Premier League games in the 2019/20 campaign?

Speaking exclusively to TIF, McTear said: “They’ve not historically been a top-six club but, if you look at the last two seasons, Leicester are a top-six club.

“They’ve just won the FA Cup and are still not getting in the Champions League, but I think they’re so close. They’re so attractive for players.”
