Leeds United journalist has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of Marcelo Bielsa signing a new contract to keep him on as the manager at Elland Road.
This comes after Cross made an appearance on a recent episode of The Blue White and Yellow podcast, where he spoke about a variety of topics concerning the Yorkshire club.
On the subject of Bielsa and the likelihood of him putting pen to paper on a new deal at Leeds, Cross had this to say on the matter.
He said: “I mean, there are no concerns with this at all.
“It is a case of getting the paperwork in order – and getting the paperwork in order for what is quite a vast backroom team as well.
“We know that Marcelo is very hands-on with those staff that he’s brought with him and that he virtually manages himself, so it will happen when it happens.
“They were very, very keen to ensure it’s not the same as last season when it literally was the day before the Liverpool game, so we’re hoping it won’t be the day before Manchester United, but we’ve got friendlies.
“We didn’t have friendlies last summer, at least in public, so if he’s not in the dugout next week, then there will be a lot of eyebrows raised, but I’d be amazed if he’s not in the dugout for those games, and that, I think, will settle a lot of nerves.”
Bielsa joined Leeds back in the summer of 2018 and has since gone on to take charge of 140 matches with the club across all competitions, in which they have won 74, drawn 22 and lost 44 along the way (per Transfermarkt).

Taking into account what Cross had to say and how Bielsa’s latest contract with Leeds ended at the end of last month amid his preparations with his players for their upcoming pre-season friendlies, it’s safe to assume that it is a case of when, not if, the Argentine signs a new deal at the club.

Given how Bielsa managed to take Leeds back to the Premier League after a 16-year absence and then guided them to a top-half finish in the table last season, it would also be safe to assume that the majority of Leeds fans would very much like to see the 66-year-old continue with the club – and Cross’ comments should put minds at rest despite the situation dragging on once again.
