According to the print edition of the Sunday Mirror (as per Football League World), the former Sheffield United boss is one of the candidates for the position and has reportedly earmarked the former Baggies striker as a potential transfer target.
Gayle had a loan spell at the Baggies during the 2018/19 season, where he received the Supporters’ Player of the Season award.
Gayle scored 24 goals in 41 appearances for Albion that season but the 31-year-old returned to his parent club in the summer. The Englishman’s contract was due to be up this year, but Gayle recently signed a three-year extension with the Magpies so any deal for him to join West Brom so soon may prove difficult.
There were mixed reactions from Baggies fans regarding the reports but many appeared to believe that the signing would be “worth a go.”

Could you imagine Gayles movement and finishing with Pereira’s creativity! ?

Why the hate, he is worth a punt, knows the club, gets the fans and most importantly scores goals. Been fit now since Jan so well worth a go.

Hey that’s not the worst bit of business that we could do. Get another scorer alongside . Happy about that and he knows the club
