This comes as Yorkshire Live reporter Dom Howson tweeted an article announcing that Wednesday defender Julian Borner is in talks with German second division side Hannover 96, claiming that the Hillsborough side are ‘holding out for a fee’.
Fans were quick to turn to Twitter to respond to the news…
“If they want him pay up.”
“Will take anything from 250-500k for him”
“Good. They want him, they pay for him.”
“Our players might not be worth a great deal but the reality is if clubs want them they have to pay a fee. Suspect clubs are testing the water thinking there is a fire sale at S6”
“According to the German press, they still owe him several months of wages. So it is not the question of paying the club, but the club paying him. Apparently that is now going to the courts.”
“No point keeping him, not playing him or him being unhappy when we could be saving on the wage bill.”
“I hope so.”
Judging by the reactions to the tweet, Wednesday fans would be happy if Borner departs but would hope that there is a fee received for the defender.
It was a difficult season for Wednesday both on and off the field, with financial troubles and being condemned to relegation to League One by Wayne Rooney’s Derby County on the final day of the season as their woes continue amid reports of issues with unpaid wages.
Borner’s potential departure may help to that end, and it seems most of these supporters would be behind it.
