Pundit Barry Ferguson has recently made a claim about Greg Taylor and his international selection.
Ferguson appeared on the latest episode of the Go Radio Football Show and the panel talked about numerous issues involving the Hoops. One caller on the show talked about Taylor’s international call-up for the Euros and Ferguson gave his views about the Scotsman.
Ferguson believes that the left-back hasn’t disappointed anyone while playing for Celtic and he could be the understudy for Andy Robertson at the Euros, since Kieran Tierney looks set to play at centre-back.
Taylor is already a Scotland international having made four appearances for the national side under Steve Clarke. He played under the Scotland boss during his time at Kilmarnock as well.

Ferguson defended Taylor’s inclusion in the line-up and said (50:29): “I’ve seen a few people saying maybe Greg Taylor could’ve been left out for even young [Josh] Doig at Hibs and I can see the point, but I think if you look at Greg Taylor, Steve Clarke knows him inside out.
“He knows what he’s going to get from Greg Taylor. He’s not going to be the match-winner, he’s not going to be the main man in the team. But what Greg Taylor brings is somebody you can trust if an Andy Robertson is struggling.
“Because he likes to play with three at the back Steve Clarke and I think left side of the three is Kieran Tierney’s. Would he go and play Kieran Tierney and bring another centre-back in? I very much doubt that. That’s why I think he’s went with Greg Taylor. I’ll be honest with you with Greg Taylor, every time I’ve watched him, either be it for Scotland or Celtic, I don’t think he’s ever let anybody down.”

Taylor played 21 Premiership games in the 2020/21 campaign and the left-back managed to get as many as six assists for the Hoops, which is a reflection of his creativity as a player.
Throughout his career, the 23-year-old has generally been a regular left-back, and even for the national team he’s played on the left all the time and he’s even grabbed two assists. So it is understandable why Clarke would want him in the side, given that Kieran Tierney has generally played at centre-back for Scotland in recent times.
