Pundit Chris Burke has recently talked about Jack Hendry’s potential return to Celtic in the summer.

While Hendry is on loan at Belgian club Oostende, Burke appeared as a guest on the Go Radio Football Show and he talked about the Scotsman’s future at Parkhead.

The pundit believes that the defender might get a new lease of life under the next Celtic boss, who might end up having a liking for the Scotland international. Burke believes that maybe, it was all about getting some playing time for Hendry.

Hendry was loaned out to Oostende in the summer of 2020 and the Scotsman has already won the player of the season award in Belgium. The defender has made it clear about his wishes to play at the highest level, confirming that Oostende have the option to buy him permanently.

Burke talked about Hendry, praising him: “That’s what it takes to go away, learn. He’s a good footballer, isn’t he? That’s him in the national squad, maybe arguably in the starting eleven.

“Maybe it just takes a little bit of game time and learning a new style of play as well. He’s still young and [if] he comes back all firing, the new manager might love him.”

TIF Thoughts on Hendry’s future…

If Hendry indeed has performed well in Belgium, it should come as good news for Celtic. That’s because Shane Duffy has already returned to Brighton and Christopher Jullien remains injured. Kristoffer Ajer meanwhile, has been linked with clubs in England.

This suggests that the Hoops might be without too many centre-back options soon and as a result, they’d need depth in that department. Hendry would offer that and he’ll return to the club with the confidence of having done well at Oostende.

So bringing him back into the first-team fold would make sense.
