David may have to sell Declan Rice to sign Jesse Lingard and improve his this summer, warns former League midfielder Carlton Palmer.

After an impressive loan spell at the London Stadium, Moyes has made it clear that he wants to sign Lingard permanently from parent club Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel would like to bring Rice to Chelsea when the transfer window opens if reports from The Telegraph are to be believed.

Having become such an important player for the Hammers, Moyes will not want to lose the defensive midfielder – and from the fans’ perspective, especially not to their west London rivals.

However, for big money, which would allow them to sign Lingard and perhaps one or two other signings, Palmer believes the idea of selling Rice should not be taken off the table.

“I know what Declan brings and he’s a good player,” the ex-Leeds United and Southampton man exclusively told TIF.

“But sometimes you have to look at where you can [raise funds] when you haven’t got the . Without them selling somebody, I don’t think they’re going to be able to bring Lingard in.

“They’re going to be wanting £40m for Lingard at least.”

If that is the kind of money Manchester United end up demanding, then West Ham could be in trouble, with Moyes recently admitting that the club did not have £40m to go towards reported target Tammy Abraham.
