Leeds United will not sell Tyler Roberts to Newcastle United this summer, that is according to ex-Whites midfielder Carlton Palmer.

Roberts’ contract expires next summer and the 22-year-old forward is now being linked with a move to St. James’ Park.

Football Insider recently reported that Newcastle are weighing up a move, with Roberts yet to sign an extension at Elland Road.

Palmer, however, believes he has been too much of an important player for Marcelo Bielsa this season for him to be sold.

“He won’t let him go,” the former Leeds midfielder exclusively told TIF. “He’s played 27 games this season and you need players who can be versatile for you, so why would you let him go?

“I don’t think there’s any doubt unless Leeds United get a massive offer for him to go.”

While Roberts has been far from prolific this term, he has indeed been heavily relied upon by Bielsa, playing the majority of Leeds’ fixtures and in different positions.

And at 22, the Welshman obviously has time to develop into a better goalscorer, so his lack of proficiency in what was his first proper Premier League campaign will probably not be a huge concern for Bielsa.

Furthermore, it is no surprise that the Argentine and Leeds want to keep hold of the player.
