Many Tottenham Hotspur fans have been discussing some comments from Toby Alderweireld that emerged on social media.
Alderweireld was recently talking on the MIDMID podcast (via Voetbal 24). The defender spoke about playing in Belgium in the future and the ex-Ajax man stated that he may play in his home country at some point in the future and that he isn’t saying ‘no’ to the possibility.
Should Alderweireld leave in the summer?
He made it clear that he would like to experience playing for a club in Belgium, but it isn’t in his hands and he’s still very happy at Spurs.
What did Spurs fans make of Alderweireld’s comments?
“Say no to Slowby Olderveireld in 2021.”
“Slowby man thank you but it’s time to go.”
“Guy Toby is not good anymore for me. He is nice person in the past but now is like he want to have hair but can not play well. May be put some hair gel on his legs for gel is better.”
“Appreciate the loyalty, but it is time.”
“He needs to be shipped.”
These Spurs fans don’t want Alderweireld to stay at the club any longer and they believe the time is right for him to leave.
Having said that, Alderweireld picked up the highest Whoscored rating out of Spurs centre-backs in the Premier League during the 2020/21 campaign. And only five Tottenham players grabbed a higher rating than him (as per Whoscored).
While he’s now 32, last season suggests that Alderweireld is still a pretty functional member of the side. So Spurs should perhaps look to keep him at the club.
