David Hughes, an analyst and scout, has been speaking on the latest edition of the Liverpool Echo’s Royal Blue podcast about Ademola Lookman potentially returning to Everton.

To kick off this quiz on Seamus Coleman, what squad number does the right-back currently wear for the Toffees?

The 23-year-old spent the 2020/21 season on loan with Fulham and made 35 appearances, scored four goals, and provided four assists.

This made him the Cottagers’ second-top goalscorer, and he also earned an average WhoScored rating of 6.92, which made him Fulham’s second-best player.

So, though it was a dreadful season for Scott Parker’s men, Lookman performed well; however, Hughes doesn’t think that the 23-year-old will be returning to Goodison Park.

He said when asked if there was a buyback clause: (57:45) “No, I don’t think so. He’s been sold, and he might have a future now at Leipzig because obviously Nagelsmann going to Bayern [Munich] Jesse Marsch is going in there, and then he might want to have a look at him.

“The impression is I think maybe they’re just a little bit too good for him to get in there. So I don’t know if there’s any buyback; there might be too much water under the bridge on that one.

“I think if you look at how he performed this season, in a poor Fulham side to get that return. I think he’s just an interesting player.”

TIF Thoughts on Lookman and Everton…

The Toffees signed Lookman from Charlton Athletic in January 2017, and he went on to make 48 appearances for the club, before RB Leipzig took him on loan and then signed him permanently.

However, once he had moved to Germany permanently, things turned sour for Lookman, and he played just 13 games in the 2019/20 season before Fulham took him on loan.

He proved that he could play in the Premier League and deliver in a poor team, so we think he would be a good addition for Everton even if Hughes can’t see it happening.
