Transfer insider Dean Jones has been speaking on the latest edition of the Touchline Talk show to discuss Crystal Palace’s ongoing search for a new manager.

Roy Hodgson confirmed he would be stepping down from his job with the Eagles at the end of the season after a four-season stint with the south London club.

Who would you prefer as the next manager?

Eddie Howe

Palace ended the 2020/21 Premier League campaign with a 2-0 defeat at Anfield which saw the Eagles finish in 14th place of the table.

A number of names have since been linked with the vacant role at Selhurst Park, one being former Chelsea manager and player Frank Lampard.

However, discussing potential successors for Hodgson, Jones insisted Lampard and Eddie Howe were candidates which are no longer in the frame.

He said (18:28): “I think we can rule out Frank Lampard and Eddie Howe at this point. I think both of them had an opportunity to take this job. And I think that that chance has now gone.

“So I think that Palace have moved on. I think that the owners of Crystal Palace are very keen on Steve Cooper of Swansea. And I think that there are also people at the club that are keen on Sean Dyche.”

TIF Thoughts on vacant Palace job…

Since discussing their options, reports have suggested Eddie Howe is no longer in contention to become the Celtic manager. The former Bournemouth manager has experience in the English top-flight and has had success in keeping the Cherries afloat for four seasons (via Transfermarkt).

Steve Cooper’s Swansea are set to battle it out for a place in the Premier League with Swansea on the weekend which we think will decide his future at the Welsh club.

However, with Celtic now out of the window for Howe, will the Eagles pick up their interest in Howe again? A manager with Premier League experience and the ability to provide the fans with attractive football.
