Newcastle United fans have been reacting to comments made by Allan Saint-Maximin during a recent interview about the club’s transfer policies.

Speaking during an interview with Stadium Astro (quoted by The Chronicle), the Frenchman said that the club needed more players like Joe Willock on the team if they were to move up the table “I think we need more players like him to be in the top 10 but that’s why when you bring a player like Willock in, even I feel more comfortable because he helps the team to play well, to draw, to win so it’s really important to have more players like Joe Willock in the team.”

It’s a valid argument, Willock had arguably one of the best loan spells that the Premier League has seen when he moved to St James’ Park in the January transfer window, scoring eight goals, including a run of seven in seven appearances. Those goals would ultimately prove vital in their successful battle to stay up. So if they could repeat that success over and over, then who knows how high the team can go?

But in order to do that, the club would need to spend big money in the transfer window, something that owner Mike Ashley has been reluctant to do at times.

Which is why, when his comments were relayed to fans on the Newcastle United – Chronicle Facebook page, there were plenty of fans who felt that in order to raise the money necessary, it might be a good idea for the Saint-Maximin to be sacrificed in order to raise the funds:

Do you think Saint-Maximin will stay at Newcastle in the summer?

No

And after scoring just seven goals during his two seasons at the club, you can kind of understand their frustration and desire to for him to leave.
