Former Leeds United star Jon Newsome believes that striker Tyler Roberts could look to leave the club this summer, telling This Is Futbol that he is at a crossroads in his career.

Roberts has struggled for minutes under manager Marcelo Bielsa this season.

The 22-year-old has made 12 starts in the Premier League but he has not scored a goal, despite playing as a centre-forward eight times at Elland Road.

Does Tyler Roberts deserve a new contract?

More recently, he has been playing as an attacking midfielder, perhaps to supplement the threat of centre-forward Patrick Bamford.

Roberts has never been a prolific forward, with his highest-scoring campaign coming in 2017/18 for Walsall, as he netted five times in 17 games in League One.

And Newsome thinks that he may well seek a move away from the club this summer, especially if Leeds sign a striker this summer.

Speaking exclusively to TIF, the former Leeds star, who won the First Division with the club, said: “I would imagine there will be a discussion between him and the football club, at some point coming up to the end of the season to see what the club’s plans are, if they’re going to recruit in that area.

“If they do, where does he sit in the pecking order? And then he’s got a choice to make, does he stay at the football club and get a possibly limited amount of time playing time? Or does he choose to go out on loan? Or does he choose to choose to leave?

“So it’s a bit of a crossroads for him, really.”
