Reports a few weeks ago claimed that Spurs, as well as north London rivals Arsenal, had been approached to see if they were interested in bringing the Spaniard on board, following his decision to leave at the end of his contract this summer.
Spurs were reportedly interested in the 29-year-old, valued at £13.5m on Transfermarkt, last summer as well. And according to a report from Spanish outlet Sport (via Sport Witness), they have shown real intent in getting his signature by offering to improve his wages and offer him a ‘transfer bonus’ as well.
The news was relayed to fans on social media by Hotspur Related, where there didn’t seem to be too much enthusiasm about the deal from the supporters:
“Horrible option, if that’s Jose ambition then he can go”
Do you think Tottenham will have to sell a star player in the summer?
Although, given he would be a free transfer, it’s not as if there’s much of a risk involved. Worst comes to worst they can always sell him and make a profit 12 months later.
