Newcastle United supporters have been reacting to a post on the club’s official Twitter account after it revealed Anthony Taylor would be the man in charge of their upcoming fixture against Burnley.

The Magpies travel to Turf Moor on Sunday as they attempt to secure what could be a crucial three points in the battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.

Steve Bruce’s men rescued a point last time out via an 85th-minute Joe Willock equaliser, but the St. James’ Park outfit will be hoping to go one better this time around as they remain just one place above the bottom three.

However, some fans appear to think their task has just been made even harder after Taylor was announced as the referee for their clash against Sean Dyche’s side:

“announce loss”

@fabgeeza

“Anthony Taylor from Lancashire Anthony Taylor?”

@spaniels1980

“Oh great”

@Charlieboi554

“Cheers, fanbase crying now.”

@ToonMouthTyne

“Isn’t he from Lancashire area? Shouldn’t be allowed”

@jonny_muse

“Won’t use much petrol., it’s just on his doorstep!!!!!!”

@GeorgeHGMitchell

Taylor has been in charge of two previous Newcastle games this season, both resulting in defeats against Leeds United and Brighton and Hove Albion, respectively; so clearly the Magpies supporters don’t believe in the saying third times a charm.
