Keith Gillespie has told This Is Futbol that Steve Bruce’s future at Newcastle United may depend on the outcome of their pending takeover.

The potential takeover from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is currently being dragged through the courts after concerns were raised by the Premier League.

There have been new twists this month, with Magpies owner Mike Ashley closing the club’s retail store and telling staff that there may be developments in the takeover, per The Daily Mail.

Do you think Bruce will still be Newcastle manager by the start of next season?

No, I hope not

No, I hope not

Yes, he deserves it

Yes, he deserves it

The same newspaper has reported that there was a lobbying effort from heads of the Saudi state involving the government, and there is the possibility that the club could finally be free of Ashley’s ownership.

Bruce was obviously installed by the current owner and he is attempting to keep the Magpies in the Premier League.

They are currently 15th in the table, eight points clear of 18th-placed Fulham, while they have lost just one of their last six games.

And Gillespie believes that Bruce will definitely be in charge next season if Ashley is still there; if he isn’t, there could be a change.

Speaking to TIF, he said: “I probably think it might depend on who the owners are.

“I’m leading back to the takeover talk again. I think if Ashley’s in control next season, I think Steve Bruce will still be there.”
