Leeds United fans have been reacting to a stat that came out of their victory at the Etihad over the weekend.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men stunned the champions-elect with a 2-1 win despite being down to ten men for the entirety of the second-half and spending the vast majority of it under siege from Pep Guardiola’s side, only having 29% possession. All that defending and chasing the ball, naturally leads to a lot of running, something Leeds United are used to given the high-intensity workload that Bielsa puts them under.
It’s no surprise then that Leeds had outrun all of their opponents this season heading into the Manchester City fixture. But as Joe Donnohue pointed out on Twitter (via @JoeDonnohue), the game on Saturday was the first time that a team had outrun Leeds in terms of overall distance covered, but only by 200m, which you feel would have been made up for by captain Liam Cooper if he was still on the pitch.
And this stat left a number of supporters impressed when they saw it on social media, so amazed were they by the effort put in by the players given the circumstances:
“Wow, just wow!”
Will Marcelo Bielsa stay at Leeds United?
Yes
No
Just imagine how much more they’d have been able to cover with the full complement of players available.
