Many Leeds United fans have been reacting to news about their finances following a report from the club.

Whilst the club had a very successful season on the pitch last season, winning promotion back to the Premier League for the first time since 2004, in the bank account it was a totally different story, as Phil Hay at The Athletic reported the club lost £62m during the campaign.

And whilst some of that can be contributed to some matters out of their hands, such as a lack of fans in stadiums towards the end of the season and a £7m rebate to broadcasters, it still paints a rather staggering picture of the state of the club, especially when you consider Leeds and their financial issues in the past.

That is why, when Hay relayed the news to the fans on Twitter, there were a number of people with a sense of relief that they were promoted, envisioning just how bad things could have been if they didn’t get promoted:

“Crazy this. However, in a much better financial position now!”

“The only thing I’ll say to this is I’m glad we got promoted!”
“Practically promotion or bust, the Leeds United way.”
“Rivals. This is why Bielsa is as rated as he is, the pressure to get us out of that league was immense, if we didn’t go up we would be on our way to league 2.”
“We really do owe Bielsa everything. Got Radrizzani out of jail big time.”
“To think we almost went out of existence for 80 million.”

Will Bielsa stay beyond this season?

Makes you think what sort of summer the club could have been in for if they had fallen short.
