Kevin Graham has been speaking on the latest edition of the A Celtic State of Mind podcast about all things relating to Celtic.

Which club did Brown join Celtic from?

One of the topics that he spent a little bit of time on was the Bhoys’ failure to sign Ivan Toney in the last summer transfer window.

Toney was heavily linked with a move to Celtic Park but moved to Brentford instead, where he has scored an impressive 25 goals for the Bees.

The 24-year-old, who is valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, has recently been linked with a move to the Premier League with West Ham United, and Leicester City said to be sniffing around, and Graham revealed why he thinks that Celtic didn’t sign Toney.

He said: “I am going to say something here, I reckon Ivan Toney wasn’t signed because we never sold French Eddie. That’s my reckoning because I think he signed for Brentford for around about £9m.

“I think that’s the only reason that Toney is not a Celtic player.”

Do you think Celtic should have signed Toney?

TIF Thoughts on Graham’s claim…

Edouard was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the last summer transfer window, but nothing materialised, and he remained at Celtic Park where he has scored 20 goals in 32 appearances.

However, given that Toney will cost the Bees up to £10m, we can see why Graham thinks that because the club didn’t sell Edouard.

We will probably never know what might have happened if the Bhoys had sold Edouard and signed Toney but looking at how many goals he has scored for Brentford, then it is easy to speculate that he could have been a great signing.

We think this is an interesting claim from Graham and wouldn’t be surprised if it was pretty accurate.
