Sky Sports journalist Gerard Brand has shared his thoughts on Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland and the possibility of him joining Liverpool during the upcoming summer transfer window.

This comes after Brand recently made an appearance on The Sky Sports Football Podcast where he spoke about a number of topics surrounding the Premier League.

First up in this Mo Salah quiz, what is his current squad number for Liverpool?

On the subject of Haaland and the likelihood of him making the move to Anfield in the summer, Brand had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Now, they haven’t been shy in spending in the past; they spent a combined £150 million on a defender and a goalkeeper in [Virgil] Van Dijk and Allison [Becker], and I’m not sure we realise just how big a name Jurgen Klopp is still in Dortmund and how that might have an impact.

“Could he come in and replace Roberto Firmino? I don’t think it’s an impossibility, but this will come down to finances and desire to sign Haaland if you’re Liverpool, because I actually think he’ll want to play for Liverpool.”

Despite his eye-watering market value of £99m (as per Transfermarkt), it would be fair to say that it would be a price worth paying should he join Liverpool from the German giants – with the Norwegian posting a hugely impressive goal/assist ratio of 1.23 per game since his switch last winter.

TIF Thoughts on Liverpool’s chances of signing Haaland in the summer…

Taking into account how Roberto Firmino, who has played in every single one of Liverpool’s Premier League games so far this season, has only managed to score six league goals, this suggests to us why Brand thinks the Reds could target Haaland in the summer to take the Brazilian’s place and potentially add more goals to their team.

In our view, given how Haaland has been in stupendous goalscoring form since arriving at Dortmund, there’s every possibility that this could sway the owners at Liverpool to make a move for him in the summer so he can replicate or even improve that form with the Reds.
