Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy has offered up his thoughts on the future of Harry Kane.

The England captain has been at the centre of some intense discussion recently about his future and whether or not he would be better off staying at Spurs or leaving in order to win trophies. Kane was rather coy about it the other day whilst on international duty, claiming that he would deal with his future once the tournament was over.

But speaking on TalkSport’s White and Jordan show, whilst ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan felt that the clubs, Spurs and whoever is willing to buy him, would be driving most of the conversation, Murphy claimed that the deal is likely only going to come about it Kane himself wants to leave.

He said: “I think the deal to be done is more in the fact that the player, he is going to have to kick up a little bit of a stink, because you’re right, there will be a premium on his head. He’ll have to be knocking the door down.

“[He may do that] because he’s ambitious. He’s not going to win the Premier League at Tottenham, not going to win the Champions League there, simple as that.”

TIF Thoughts on Danny Murphy’s comments about Harry Kane…

Murphy is right with his analysis, because this isn’t a situation where Spurs are having to make a financial decision like they are going out of business a la the fire sale at Leeds back in the early 2000s, this whole discussion is all about Kane and what he wants to do for the sake of his career.

So it’s likely going to be him that will make the first move in all of this, rather than Spurs floating his name around trying to find a buyer first. Although what role that will all play in the reported contract negotiations, we’ll just have to wait and see.
