Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water over speculation linking Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic with a move to Everton in an exclusive interview with GiveMeSport.

Recent reports from Spain (via Goal) have suggested that the Merseyside club could raid the Nou Camp once again as they look to strengthen their squad.

In recent transfer windows, Everton have signed Lucas Digne, Andre Gomes and Yerry Mina, all from Barcelona. However, according to Romano, Pjanic, who is said to be on just over £270,000 per week, is unlikely to follow due to the sort of money the La Liga giants are looking for.

Speaking about Pjanic’s future, Romano told GiveMeSport:

“Because of the balance of financial fair play, if they [Barcelona] want to sell a player, they need to have like 60 or €65m. And I think after this season, spending this money on Miralem Pjanic will be complicated for English clubs in general. He didn’t have a strong season.”

Due to his agent’s relationship with Premier League clubs, though, Romano is convinced Pjanic will at least be pushed towards some English outfits in the summer.

His agent will try with English clubs because he’s always trying with English clubs and he has a strong relationship, but it won’t be so easy to pay this money for Miralem Pjanic.”

Going into the summer transfer window, Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly is another player who has been linked with a move to Everton. The 29-year-old worked with Ancelotti when the Italian was in charge of the Serie A side and, according to Football Insider, a reunion at Goodison Park could be on the cards.
