Many Celtic fans have been discussing a news update about Stephen Welsh that recently emerged on social media.
Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph recently tweeted an update about young Celtic defender Welsh. The reporter stated that the defender has now resumed full training and he is available for Celtic in the club’s upcoming Premiership game against Aberdeen.
Should Stephen Welsh start against Aberdeen?
The defender was stretchered off during Celtic’s game against St. Mirren some days ago but it was stated that he had escaped serious injury.
Joseph’s update involving Welsh caught the attention of many Celtic fans, who made their opinions clear about the defender.
What did Celtic fans make of the update about Welsh?
“Great news! He’s barely put a foot wrong.”
“Fabulous news! Hopefully he can get a good solid run of games between now and the end of the season.”
21-year-old Welsh, who made his Celtic debut last season in a Premiership game against Hamilton, has played a part in the first team this season. He’s made six appearances in the Premiership, also scoring against Motherwell in their 2-1 win earlier this month (as per Transfermarkt).
Welsh has also played for the Hoops in the Europa League. Other Celtic fans also expressed their delight about the news involving the 21-year-old.
“Somehow that’s one of the best bits of news I’ve heard all season.”
“No excuse for Lennon to start Duffy tomorrow now. Welsh should go straight back in.“
A lot of these Celtic fans are happy about Welsh’s fitness update and one fan believes that Neil Lennon has no excuse to start Shane Duffy against Aberdeen.
With Christopher Jullien currently out injured because of a knee injury and Hatem Abd Elhamed having departed, the Hoops certainly need some extra options in the backline and Welsh’s return to fitness would help them shore up that position.
Celtic are yet to lose in the league in February and Welsh has featured in three games this month. So his presence might just be a boost for the Bhoys.
