Plenty of Celtic supporters have taken to social media to issue praise for young Bhoys defender Stephen Welsh, after he netted his first goal for the club against Motherwell.
Welsh was making his fifth appearance of the season for the Celtic first-team, and wasted no time in making a positive impact on the game, as he headed home from a David Turnbull corner after just two minutes.
Celtic went into the game 23 points adrift of league-leaders Rangers, and will be hoping they can put together a positive run of results at the earliest of opportunities from now until the end of this year’s campaign.
Do you want to see more of Welsh?
Brighton and Hove Albion loanee Shane Duffy has occupied the starting spot in the Celtic team at times this season, but Welsh will be hoping he can retain his place in the team moving forward.
A number of Celtic supporters took to Twitter to praise the 6 foot 3 Welsh for his first goal for the club, whilst also suggesting that Duffy shouldn’t be involved in the starting XI after Welsh’s contribution against Motherwell.
Take a look at the best of the reaction below….
“No Lennon out photo for this one. Lad deserves that! Brilliant.”
“Shame he’s being held back like everybody else by 1 man.”
“Get him signed up on a better deal!”
“Better than Duffy!”
“Well in Welshy, show big Duffer how it’s done.”
“More welshy. Less Lennon.”
“Why has it took until February for Welsh to replace Shane Duffy? Should have happened months ago.”
“Play him every single game.”
“Buzzing for him & imagine we gave youth a chance more this season?”
“Nothing better than one of our own scoring. Delighted for Welsh”
“Who needs Ben Davies!”
“That goal aside, I really like the look of Welsh. Bar maybe the AC Milan game, I think anytime I’ve seen him he looks reasonably composed and solid.”
“Yup, him and jullien next season”
