Newcastle United fans have been responding to a message left by former player Jetro Willems on Twitter.
The Dutchman spent last season on loan at St. James’ Park on loan from parent club Eintracht Frankfurt, however, he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in January and has not played a game since, even for the German side.
Speaking back in April (via The Chronicle), he claimed that he would be back ready to play in and around August, and even though he hasn’t played since then – which might raise some questions about his fitness levels – that didn’t stop Newcastle from reportedly reaching out to try and bring him back.
So when the clock was ticking on deadline day, one Newcastle fan speculatively reached out to ask if he was returning to the club, only for him to reply with a simple ‘nope’.
But that didn’t stop some fans from still holding out hope that he might come back in the future, with some hoping that a change in the dugout might be what inspires the club – or Willems – to have a change of heart:
“That’s a shame Jetro , a very good player that actually wants to be part of our club! Real shame! You may have only been here for a short time but “once a Geordie””
Would you like to see the club bring Jetro Willems back this summer?
Yes
No
Looks like it’s a case of ‘watch this space’ to see if he does indeed still have a place in the club’s future.
