Former Rangers player Ian Durrant believes that the board will be kind to Steven Gerrard if the squad needs to be strengthened this window.
Whilst it might look something of a foregone conclusion that Rangers are going to win the league title given the vast gap between them and second place, that doesn’t mean everything is going smoothly at Ibrox right now.
Gerrard is still waiting on injury updates for a number of players, including veteran central midfielder Scott Arfield. Speaking on the latest edition of The Blues Brothers Podcast, Durrant believes that if things end up being worse than expected, he doesn’t see any reason why the board won’t allow him to bring in some extra players.
He said: “If somebody becomes available, and I think if the manager thinks he needs someone, he’ll strengthen. I think the club will back him up. As I said, they’ve been great for him, they’ve never let him down. If anything, they will be looking for a loan deal, depending on the severity.”

Durrant’s words should offer up a bit of encouragement, because whilst the battle between them and Celtic looks to be all but over in the league, for this season at least, there is still a lot on Rangers’ plate to be dealing with, in particular their Europa League clash with Royal Antwerp coming up next month.
Rangers have been granted a great opportunity to assert their dominance and re-establish themselves as the number one team in Scotland, and doing well in Europe is a great way to do that. Having already made history earlier in the campaign if they can do something that Celtic haven’t done in recent years and progress past the Round of 32, then that would certainly be a huge marker laid down in the battle for Old Firm supremacy.
So by the looks of it, if the board wants that to happen, they’ll be willing to make it so.
