Fans of Tottenham Hotspur have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relayed a report regarding Southampton centre-forward and reported Spurs transfer target, Danny Ings.

According to the report by The Telegraph, Southampton have offered Ings a new four-year deal that would see him become the best-paid player in the history of the south coast club, a deal that Saints manager, Ralph Hasenhuttl, has encouraged the 28-year-old to sign, dubbing the offer as “fantastic“.

A nice easy one to start off with, who is Tottenham's record signing?

However, with Southampton reluctant to include a release clause in the new deal, the £18 million-rated man is said to be holding off on putting pen to paper, as he has ‘always been convinced he could return to a Champions League club’.

And, with just 18 months left to run on his current deal with at Saints and the two parties appearing to be at something of an impasse regarding the new contract, Tottenham are reported to be keeping tabs on the England international’s situation ahead of a potential move.

Now, this development from the Ings camp has led to plenty of reaction from Spurs fans, as was the case earlier in the week when Tottenham links had emerged.

After Daily Hotspur relayed this report on Twitter, fans of Tottenham flocked to have their say on the matter, with many claiming that, if Ings wishes to join a club in the Champions League, their side could be ruled out of the race, while others begged Daniel Levy to make a move for the forward.

So, what exactly did these Tottenham Hostpur fans have to say in reaction to the report regarding Danny Ings?

“Oh there goes our chances then.”

@thfclukas

“Imagine having Kane and Ings up front with son and Bergwijn on the wings… or maybe Son and Ings up and Kane as a second striker, would be amazing.”

@Borjaperibosque

“Well then all chances gone.”

@SANCHEZSZNN

“PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEE.”

@thfc_AC22

Said awhile back I wouldn’t be surprised if Tottenham revisited a move for Danny Ings in the summer and it’s looking like that potentially could happen. He’s homegrown and Mourinho is a big fan of him it makes sense to at least try to get him. #thfc #transfers #coys”

@Zeus84053707

“@SpursOfficial get it done.”

@SamLav20

“Would be a massive signing”

@lUKE_coys

All in all, it would appear that opinion amongst these Tottenham fans is rather split following the report on Ings, with some ruling their club out of the running to sign the striker due to Spurs currently occupying fifth place in the Premier League, while others claimed that a deal for the striker makes perfect sense for Jose Mourinho’s side.

With the team low on strikers in terms of both numbers and proven Premier League experience, it is clear why there is excitement over the potential signing of the Saints man.
