Speaking recently on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano discussed Liverpool’s interest in LOSC Lille midfielder, Renato Sanches.

Since making an £18 million move to Lille from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2019, Sanches has gone on to feature 41 times for Christophe Galtier’s side, chipping in with five goals and providing one assist along the way.

First up in this Mo Salah quiz, what is his current squad number for Liverpool?

So far this season, the £25.2 million-rated 23-year-old has impressed for the side who currently sit just one point from the top of the Ligue 1 table, scoring one goal over his nine league appearances, while averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.89 – ranking him as the club’s eighth-best performer in the French top flight.

And, it would seem the performances of the Portugal international have caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp, whose Liverpool side are reported to be interested in a move for the midfielder, as per TuttoMercatoWeb.

However, speaking on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, Romano claimed that the Reds will not be making a move for Sanches in January, but may well do so at the end of the season.

He said: “Always pay attention to Renato Sanches because we mentioned him as [not an] option [in] January; [Liverpool] are not looking at him in January because they don’t need another midfielder right now. But, next summer, Renato Sanches will be on the market and Liverpool are looking at him, so he can be an opportunity.

“There is nothing advanced yet, but they are looking at him as a possible opportunity. So, for sure, Renato Sanches, as we mentioned for [Dayot] Upamecano, we can say the same also for Renato Sanches – he will be one of the main players, main targets, of the summer for top clubs and also for Liverpool.

“He’s really an interesting young player, but also with good experience in the Premier League and French league and everything and Liverpool are looking at him.”

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments regarding Renato Sanches…

So, from Romano’s comments, despite some reports suggesting that Liverpool have already agreed a deal for the transfer of Sanches in January, it would seem that Klopp’s side will be waiting until the summer until they potentially make a move for the midfielder.

And, with the future of one of Liverpool’s current central midfielders, Georginio Wijnaldum, remaining uncertain at present, in our opinion, it would not be surprising if Liverpool’s potential move for Sanches hinges on whether or not the club can tie their Dutch midfielder down to a new deal.
