Celtic pundit Paul John Dykes has recently criticised the club’s central defender Shane Duffy.
Dykes was hosting the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was Duffy, following the club’s 4-1 loss to Sparta Prague in the UEFA Europa League. Dykes believes that the defender is looking like Celtic’s ‘worst signing of the season’.
Celtic had signed Duffy on loan from Brighton in the summer transfer window. He did score in his first two Premiership games of the season. It was reported that the Irishman was ‘raising spirits’ at Parkhead following his arrival. Duffy is currently valued at £8.55m.
Has Duffy been Celtic's worst summer signing?
Yes
No
Following Celtic’s loss to Sparta Prague, Dykes had words of criticism for Duffy and he feels that the 28-year-old is not good enough for the Hoops.
He said: “Who is to blame in defence? Who gets robbed at the back? Who is looking like the worst signing of the season? And I’m saying that because I’ve heard all the excuses. I’ve heard that he was injured [and] he shouldn’t have played against Rangers. I’ve heard that he’s not played in nine months, he’s come in, he’s been thrown in.
“I’ve got a lot of sympathy for him. Shane Duffy isn’t good enough and he’s shown that again [on Thursday].”
TIF Thoughts on Dykes’ comments regarding Duffy…
Against Sparta Prague, Duffy picked up a pretty disappointing rating of 6.03 for Celtic. Only five players picked up lesser ratings than him in the game (as per WhoScored).
This comes after his performances against Lille, Milan and Aberdeen as he picked up unimpressive ratings against all of them too. So this clearly suggests that Duffy has had a pretty torrid time at Parkhead so far and it hasn’t been smooth sailing for him. Because of that, it is easy to understand why Dykes isn’t happy at all with the 28-year-old.
