A lot of Tottenham Hotspur fans have been criticising Steven Bergwijn’s performance for the Lilywhites in Sunday’s Premier League game versus Chelsea.
Bergwijn, who joined the north London club back in January from PSV Eindhoven for £27m, featured in each of Spurs’ first three games of the 2020/21 Premier League season, however, he’d played in just two of the Lilywhites’ last six top-flight fixtures prior to their clash with Frank Lampard’s side at Stamford Bridge.
Despite that, Jose Mourinho selected the Dutch winger in his starting XI for Tottenham’s latest Premier League game.
Perhaps the 23-year-old’s hard-working performance ‘at both ends of the pitch’ in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Manchester City had something to do with his inclusion in the starting XI for this game, however, as per Football.London’s Alasdair Gold (16:40), a goalscoring opportunity fell to Bergwijn in the first-half but the £25.2m-rated man’s shot went over the bar and maybe that is one reason why plenty of Spurs fans have criticised the Dutchman’s performance versus the Blues.
So, what did these Tottenham Hotspur fans have to say about Bergwijn’s performance versus Chelsea?
Bergwijn is terrible….

Good first half. Bergwijn needs to work on his final ball! Tanguy! Sublime!

How many over lapping runs does Reguilon need to make before Bergwijn puts him in?! ?

Some Spurs supporters flocked to Twitter to slate Bergwijn’s performance in Sunday’s Premier League game, while some fans of the north London club indicated that they wanted to see the 23-year-old taken off the pitch.

Were you impressed by Bergwijn's performance versus Chelsea?

We really need Bergwijn off the pitch, he’s slowing down our counter attacks

Get Bergwijn off the pitch. Useless and wasteful first half, now a liability with the card. Get Moura on.#THFC

Bergwijn has been so poor man, put him out of his misery

Judging by these tweets, it seems as though Bergwijn may have failed to win over many Spurs supporters via his performance in the Lilywhites’ latest top-flight fixture.
