Celtic pundit Paul John Dykes has recently made a claim about the club’s striker Odsonne Edouard.

Dykes was hosting the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and he spoke about multiple issues involving the Bhoys. He also spoke about Edouard and the fact that he has now stayed at Celtic. He believes that if a club like Aston Villa had come calling for the Frenchman, they would have made an offer that may not have suited the Hoops.

Which of the following clubs has Shane Duffy never played for?

Villa were linked with a move for Edouard. The report had stated that they were looking to make a £30million offer for the striker and Crystal Palace and Leicester City were also in the hunt for him (as per the Sun).

Dykes feels that if Villa or any other club had made an offer for Edouard, it wouldn’t have met Celtic’s valuation.

He said: “You’re looking at the players that Arsenal were going out and buying, that Aston Villa were interested in. There was no mention of Odsonne Edouard and had they come in for Edouard, they probably would have been looking to get a deal on Edouard that isn’t a deal that is going to suit Celtic, because we need to get – when the time comes – top dollar for Edouard.”

TIF Thoughts…

Edouard was a very important player for the Bhoys in the 2019/20 campaign. He finished as the highest scorer in the Premiership season and also won the club’s Player of the Year award. He scored 27 times in all competitions and even racked up 19 assists for the Bhoys (as per Transfermarkt).

He is currently valued at £13.50m and his value has increased since the summer of 2018. Celtic fans can only hope that the Frenchman keeps scoring goals on a regular basis as that could lead to a further increase in Edouard’s value. That will help Celtic earn a much bigger fee from his potential sale in the future.
