Speaking on a recent episode of the Wolves Fancast, Stu Hall discussed the new contract for Wolverhampton Wanderer’s striker Raul Jimenez.

Since arriving at Wolves from Benfica in 2018, in what was originally a loan deal that the club then made a £34.2 million permanent move in 2019, Jimenez has gone on to feature 104 times for the club, scoring 46 goals and providing 18 assists along the way.

To kick off this quiz on Raul Jimenez, what is his current squad number for the Old Gold?

Last season, the £36 million-rated 29-year-old highly impressed for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, scoring 17 goals and providing six assists over his 38 Premier League appearances, averaging a WhoScored average rating of 7.25 – ranking him as the club’s second-best best performer in the league – as well as bagging a further four goals and providing three assists over his nine appearances in the Europa League – helping the side to reach the quarter-finals of the competition, in which they narrowly lost out to eventual winners Sevilla.

As a result of these fine performances, interest had been high in the Mexico international over the summer transfer window, with the striker said to be a target of both Manchester United and Juventus.

However, it would appear that Jimenez will not be leaving Wolverhampton any time soon, after the forward penned a new four-year deal with the club, keeping him under contract at Wolves until 2024.

The Mexican’s new deal was one subject of conversation on a recent episode of the Wolves Fancast, with Hall stating that Jimenez extending his contract with the club is “great news”.

He said: “It’s great news. I was one of the ones at the end of last season thinking that, without European football, will certain people still be here? And it just knocked [those] fears on the head, for me.

“Do I expect him to still be here in four years? It all depends on our club performance as a whole, but [his new deal] gives him security and gives us a bit of money leeway either way, now, so it’s just a good deal all round.”

TIF Thoughts…

From the podcaster’s comments, it is clear that he feels Jimenez’s new deal is good news for both the club and the player, and that it all but ends the speculation surrounding his future.

Considering the striker’s returns for the club last season, we have to agree, the fact that it looks like Jimenez will be staying at Wolves for the foreseeable future does seem like fantastic news for the Black Country club.
