Lee Wilmot and Alasdair Gold discussed all things Tottenham Hotspur on a recent Periscope live stream and during this live stream, they spent some time talking about Juan Foyth’s future.

This comes after Foyth recently signed a contract extension with the north London club and was then loaned out for the rest of the 2020/21 season to La Liga side Villarreal.

How well can you remember the last week of Spurs action? 1. Who scored Spurs' first goal in the win against KF Shkendija?

This loan move may not have come as a big surprise considering that the Argentinian defender hasn’t been a prominent part of Jose Mourinho’s squad, as he has made just three appearances under the Portuguese coach since he became Spurs boss last November, none of which have come in 2020, with his most recent Spurs appearance coming versus Norwich City last December.

Here is what Gold had to say about Foyth’s future during this recent live stream: “Foyth, [I’m] sadly not so sure we’ll see him again in a Tottenham shirt. I think the new contract, the three-year deal was a little bit of a red herring.

“There’s an option in the deal that Villarreal can sign him for £13.5m next summer if they want him and he wants to stay, and I think this extra year on top of his deal which had two years left to run is more a case of if for some reason he got an injury, or Villarreal or Foyth didn’t want the move, Spurs then are protected, they’ve got that extra year.

“It’s not a guy that’s going to be back at Hotspur Way next summer in any shape or form, which is a shame because I think he’s got so much potential. I think he just makes the odd daft mistake that young defenders make and he was given no wiggle room to do that, because the stakes were too high at Tottenham.”

TIF Thoughts…

So, if Gold is right in saying that Villarreal do have an option to buy Foyth at the end of his loan spell, then it would seem as though the Lilywhites definitely don’t intend to reintegrate the 22-year-old into their first-team set up for the 2021/22 campaign.

Considering that he didn’t play a single game for Spurs in 2020, it may be understandable why Tottenham have seemingly indicated a willingness to part ways with Foyth permanently.

It will be interesting to see if the Argentinian proves to have as much potential as Gold thinks he does as if that is the case, then maybe this is a departure that Spurs will end up regretting.
