Speaking on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano discussed Tottenham Hotspur’s potential move for Inter Milan defender, Milan Skriniar.

Following what has been a busy summer for Tottenham, in which they have landed the permanent signings of Sergio Reguilon, Matt Doherty, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart, as well as bringing Gareth Bale back to the club on a loan deal, it would appear that Jose Mourinho’s side is not quite finished in the transfer market just yet.

Romano tweeted the news last week that Spurs had ‘opened talks’ for Inter Milan defender Skriniar, suggesting that the Slovakian is one of Mourinho’s favourite options as a new centre-back.

Since then, there have been a number of reports documenting the progress of the potential deal, with The Guardian reporting that Spurs will not be giving up on landing the defender, despite the fact that themselves and Inter are some way apart in their valuations of the £45 million-rated man, while Football Insider claims that Spurs are ‘close to agreeing personal terms’ with the 25-year-old.

Tottenham’s potential deal for Skriniar was one topic of conversation on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, with Romano stating that the defender has told Spurs that he would like a move to the Premier League.

He said: “[Tottenham] met with Inter, but also with Skriniar’s agents, and what Skriniar [said] to Tottenham is, ‘yes, I want to go to the Premier League. So, if you find an agreement with Inter, my personal terms will not be an issue.’

“So, we can consider that Skriniar is the [main] target for Tottenham. I expect them, before the weekend, to make a new bid to Inter, but I think Inter will not sell him on Monday.

“They [will] need to find another centre-back if they sell Skriniar, so, it will not be a last-minute move, in my opinion.

“So, pay attention [over] the weekend, on Saturday, for example, for the Milan [and] Skriniar situation.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Romano’s comments, it is clear that the journalist is of the belief that Skriniar is more than open to a move to the Premier League.

However, if Spurs are to sign the defender, it will not be on the final day of the transfer window, as Romano states that Inter will want the time to find a replacement for the centre-back.

As such, it would seem as if we will not have long to wait to find out if Tottenham do indeed get their proposed deal for the defender over the line.
