Many Newcastle United supporters have been responding to a recent tweet from @NUFC360 in which they relayed a report from The Telegraph (via 90min) which claims the Magpies have made contact with Manchester United regarding the availability of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.
Smalling is understood to be keen on a return to Roma, where he spent some time on loan last season but a deal between the Serie A club and Manchester United is yet to be agreed.
If a deal cannot be reached, that could potentially open the door for the £18m-rated centre-back to join Steve Bruce’s side.
As for Jones, the 28-year-old is yet to feature for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this season and according to Transfermarkt, his current value stands at £6.3m.
Here is how a sample of the St. James’ Park faithful have responded to this tweet sharing this update.

It appears these Newcastle United supporters would be happy to see Smalling join the club but they don’t appear to be keen on the prospect of Jones coming to St. James’ Park.
The former Blackburn Rovers defender made just two Premier League appearances for the Red Devils last season and given the fact he appears to be so out of favour at United, it may be understandable why these Newcastle fans aren’t keen on him coming to the North East.
