Steve Wraith has been speaking on a recent edition of NUFC Matters about all things relating to Newcastle United.

Who will the Toon play in the next round of the Carabao Cup after they beat Newport County on penalties?

One of the topics that Wraith had a discussion about was the Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust (NUST) and their lack of action over the proposed takeover of the Toon that was withdrawn in July.

After the takeover talks collapsed, the group had a discussion with Premier League chief executive Richard Masters, and he explained why the deal was withdrawn.

However, another group of Toon fans, the Newcastle Consortium Supporters, have launched a legal challenge against the Premier League over this proposed takeover.

This led to Wraith criticising the NUST for not doing the same thing.

It seems that Wraith thinks that the NUST should have been doing more and that they might not even want the proposed takeover to go through.

He said: “I am going to have a dig at the Supporters’ Trust in this particular section because I feel that the Supporters’ Trust should have done this. Instead, it’s gone to a completely different organisation.

“This would have got the Supporters’ Trust more members than anything else, had they thought of it and done it.

“Instead, what they have spent the last six months doing is recruiting, recruiting, recruiting, and running their election.

“You’ve got to ask yourself, does the Supporters’ Trust want it to go through?”

TIF Thoughts on Wraith’s comments on the NUST…

Wraith was once part of the NUST board, but he is no longer, which could explain why he appears to be so bitter about the NUST.

The NUST held a survey of over 3,000 of its members, in which 96.7% of them wanted the takeover to go through, so it seems bizarre to suggest that they don’t want it to happen.

Yes, maybe they could have done more, but they did manage to have a discussion with Masters, and he did provide them with answers, so maybe they haven’t done that bad of a job.

However, credit must go to the Newcastle Consortium Supporters, and it will be interesting to see if their legal challenge does achieve anything further.
