Liverpool journalist Paul Gorst has shared his thoughts on Reds defender Yasser Larouci and his current situation at the Merseyside club.

This comes after Gorst recently made an appearance on the latest episode of the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he spoke about a number of different topics concerning the Reds.

First up in this Steven Gerrard quiz, how old is the former Liverpool man?

On the subject of Larouci, who was linked with a move away from Liverpool earlier in the year, Gorst had this to say on the full-back.

He said: “Larouci is an interesting one, I thought he would have been long gone at this point, because the news came out quite early on that he was looking to leave and he was looking to try and break into a first team somewhere.

“I think Leeds were interested at the time and his name was obviously brought up when Liverpool were looking at Jamal Lewis at Norwich, so it’s interesting that he’s still on the books. He’s out of contract, isn’t he? So Liverpool are in a bit of a tricky situation with him, it might just be a case of him leaving on loan and then his contract’s up and he departs on a free transfer.”

The 19-year-old left-back, who is currently valued at £1.62 million, has made 37 appearances for Liverpool’s U18 squad, 15 appearances for their U23 squad and only two appearances for the Reds’ senior side (per Transfermarkt).

As Gorst mentioned in the podcast, it was reported back in July that Larouci was close to leaving the Merseyside club, with fellow Premier League side Leeds United and Championship club Brentford both apparently interested in signing the teenager.

With the domestic transfer window still open, there’s every opportunity Larouci could leave Liverpool if any EFL club want to sign him.

TIF Thoughts on Yasser Larouci’s current situation…

With Liverpool currently having Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas in their squad that play in the left-back position, it may be the best move for Larouci to move away from the Reds if he can get the chance to find regular first-team football elsewhere.
