Phil Hay, Michael Normanton and Dan Moylan discussed all things Leeds United on the latest edition of The Phil Hay Show from The Athletic and Hay spent some time talking about the possibility of the Whites making a move for Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell during the show.

The Premier League’s international transfer window closed on Monday, however, the Whites still have until next Friday to do business with EFL clubs and £18m-rated Cantwell, who has been left out of the Canaries’ squad for their last two Championship games, has been linked with a move to Elland Road of late.

Who did Leeds sign from a La Liga side in September?

Here is what Hay had to say about the Whites’ interest in the 22-year-old midfielder during this recent edition of The Phil Hay Show: “They’ve been cool on Cantwell since the rumours came to light on the Sunday of the Sheffield United game.

“My understanding is that it’s been Cantwell’s camp and his agent who’ve been pushing this as much as Leeds have. I think that’s where a lot of the information’s coming from.

“It’s not to say, again, that they don’t like Cantwell or they don’t see ability in him, but in the way that they were getting on with [Michael] Cuisance and the way that they were getting on with Raphinha, and I know they’ve got longer to think about Cantwell, but it hasn’t felt as if that one was really tugging at them, certainly not towards the back end of the international window.”

TIF Thoughts…

Judging by what the journalist had to say, it seems that while Leeds don’t believe that Cantwell would necessarily be a poor signing for them, the Yorkshire-based club aren’t particularly active in their pursuit of the 22-year-old.

Cantwell does have Premier League experience, having played in all but one of Norwich’s Premier League games last season and he ended that campaign as the Canaries’ second-highest goalscorer in the top-flight, with the Englishman netting on six occasions last term, so it may be fair to say that he has shown that he can produce in front of goal in the top-flight.

As Leeds would have until next Friday to sign Cantwell, it will be interesting to see if their interest in the player increases over the coming days.
